1st owner David MacIver, the Liverpool shipping magnate
It is not known why she is called Manana: either she was originally very slow or she took a long time to build.
last restored in 1980 by her current owners:
- Re-decked with canvas laid on top and painted with white lead in traditional manner
Mast moved aft by 18 inches, resulting in the yacht going much faster
- New sails made by sail maker in Whitby
Manana is an historic boat, being the only yacht of her kind left which was built for Windermere and has spent all her life on Windermere. She marks the transition between the larger RWYC class boats of the Victorian period and the current Bermuda rigged 17ftrs.
She does require work, there are some signs of rot in several planks and the the boat would benefit from new paint and varnish.
The rig will need inspection, and we suspect that the boat will need a new set of sails although the cotton set she has now are said to be serviceable.
Price: offers are invited for the boat as is, but we would be delighted to talk about a full scale restoration to make her both one of the oldest but one of the most elegant old ladies on the lake.
